Rhinoplasty, commonly known as nose surgery or a ‘nose job’, is a surgical procedure for reshaping, resizing, as well as changing the contour of the nose. Being the central feature of the face, a slight change in the appearance of the nose can transform our overall look. Through this cosmetic surgery, issues like nose size reduction, reshaping the tip of the nose, making changes to the nostril shape, and many more things could be addressed.
Before opting for this surgery, you need to consult with your surgeon, if you are a good candidate for Rhinoplasty. This cosmetic surgery is carried out on the patient as an outpatient procedure at hospitals or clinics. The surgery can be performed via an open or closed approach.
It is a daycare procedure and it takes between 1-2 hours for the entire procedure to get completed.
On the day of the surgery, the patient will be asked to maintain nil-by-mouth for up to six hours before the surgery. The patient will be administered local general anesthesia. On the other hand, the surgeon will make some marks on the nose and skin, where the changes would be made.
Once the patient becomes numb or slightly unconscious, the surgeon will make incisions between or inside the nostrils. Once the skin is removed from the cartilage or the bone, the surgeon will start his job of reshaping the nose. He will alter the bones and cartilage that would help the patient to get the desired look.
If the tip of the nose is too big, the surgeon will trim down the cartilage. In case, your nose needs some more cartilages, your surgeon will remove it from the nose and will attach it. Once the desired look is achieved the surgeon would extend the tissue over the nose and stitch it in place.
Necessary dressing would be done to the nose to avoid bleeding. A splint might be placed over the bridge of the nose, to prevent bruising and swelling.
